Blossburg,
PA Skateboard Mural
Jill Nickerson came to me this spring to commission this skateboard
mural for her husband's birthday. It would eventually turn
into one of the most craziest pieces I've ever done!!!
Jill left the design up to me (bless her heart) with the only
requirements being that "Blossburg" be spelled out
across the boards and the historic section section of our
downtown represented (especially the two buildings the Nickerson's
own!).
So, Jill gave me 9 blank skateboard decks and I set out on
a hike to the top of the road-cut across from the downtown
to get a photo to base my design on.
The project turned out taking me about 3 times as long as
I expected to finish, which was my own fault for underestimating,
and over-designing (my design is extremely detailed and tiny!).
I labored (and labored) to the point that my fingers were
swollen, trying to get it done in time for the birthday, but
I failed. I finally finished, but to make matters worse, I
failed in the sealing stage! |

The
two-part fiberglass epoxy I was using wasn't mixed correctly
and didn't harden properly. Long story short, I did finally
get it done and to the Nickersons (that's Jill at left).
In all,
it was a totally awesome project and a valuable learning experience
(and just the kind of insane effort that I just love!)
